When I met Vic Sotto... II

 Alam mo yung ambisyon na iniisip mo lang?  Ano bang way ko para makita si Vic Sotto sa personal? Trabahuin na manood sa Broadway centrum?  Gustuhin ko man eh, naging busy na ako sa buhay at ni Eat Bulaga ay t’wing Saturday ko na lang napapanood.  Pero one day, nakatanggap ako ng invitation para um-attend sa blog conference ng My Little Bossings…  At may isang batang natupad ang pangarap, period! Hehehe! 

Sa unang pagkakataon/ My Little Bossings 

Wala naman pinagkaiba halos ang aura ni Vic Sotto sa TV at personal. Kapag hindi siya nagsasalita ay mukha siyang seryosong tao, pero hindi naman iyong tipong kakatakutan lapitan. Alam ko na  kung bakit malakas ang appeal n'ya bukod sa personality n'ya, may something sa mata n'ya. 

Sa ibang banda, pagkaupo niya ay nag-start na iyong question and answer portion. I don't think na matagal kami naghintay at  sulit naman din ang punta lalo na't game sumagot sina   Bossing Vic, Ryza Mae, at Madam Bibeth. 

Gaya ng sinabi ko sa first part ng post na ito ay gusto ko siya ma-interview.  S’yempre hindi ko pinaglagpas na hindi ako magtatanong, ako pa ba? Iyong mga tanong ko sa conference ay bet ko talaga (although pansin na kinabahan din ako).  Interesado ako sa screenwriting kaya nagtanong ako kay Bibeth Orteza, at gusto ko malaman kung gaano kabibo si Ryza Mae Dizon. Kung mapapansin n’yo rin po, mahilig mag-discover ng child stars si Bossing kaya yun ang tanong ko sa kanya.

Kung pakikinggan at pagmamasdan ang kulitan nina Bossing at Ryza Mae ay alam mong may nabuo nang samahan sa dalawa. Sa mga sagot ni Bossing na may kinalaman sa child star at pinakabatang TV Host ng sarili n'yang The Ryza Mae Show ay magkakahalong pagiging proud, pagdepensa, at pagpapakilala. Alam mong kinilala niya ang personality ng bata on and off camera, Gayon din kung paano siya makisama sa kanyang mga co-stars at production team. Tama rin naman s’ya na sa wit ni Ryza ay hindi na kailangan pang ipaliwanag ang X factor nito.   

Ang pinaka-espesyal noong araw na iyon ay siempre makapagpa-picture na ako katabi s'ya finally.

2^nd meeting/ My Big Bossing’s Adventures. 

 Tsamba naman na nakasama ako ulit sa blog conference para sa My Big Bossing’s Adventures.  This time kasama na nina Bossing at Ryza ang mag-amang Niño Muhlach at Alonzo Muhlach, at si Direk Marlon Rivera, Kung matatandaan ay child wonder noong kanyang kapanahunan si Niño at simula naman na ma-introduce si Alonzo sa pelikula ay nagtuloy-tuloy na ang karera nito.  Kilala ko naman si Direk Marlon sa kanyang hilarious independent film na Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank.

Given na makulay at mahaba ang experience ni  Niño bilang child star, I asked him tungkol dito at kung ano naman ang maipapayo n’ya kay Ryza.  Samantala, dahil three episode-film ang My Big Bossing’s Adventures at iba-iba ang nakatrabahong direktor dito ni Vic Sotto kaya doon  umikot ang tanong ko. First pa lang pala n’ya nakatrabaho si Bb. Joyce Bernal. Nakatuwa rin yung moment na ibinahagi niya ang kanyang mindset bilang producer. 

Ang pagkakaalam ko rin talaga kasi mahirap ang maging bida-producer. Kahit sinong baguhang producer ay iyan ang sasabihin. Baka mas sabihin pa nila na maging director at bida ka na lang kaysa maging producer pa. Sa mga hindi nakakaalam ang producer ang bahala sa lahat ( Pera, artista, direktor, crew at iba pa). Pero iyon nga, maiging matututo sila sa Eat Bulaga main host dahil  nama-manage niya nang tama at  malawak na rin ang kanyang experience.

Sulit na ako sa mga ito, pero kung bibigyan ako ng chance ay gusto ko s’ya maka- one on one interview. Iba rin kasi ang  lalabas na impormasyon at vibe sa ganoong set up.

When I met Bossing Vic Sotto...

Bata pa lang ako ay napapanood ko na si Vic Sotto sa Eat Bulaga at sa iba pa niyang sitcom.  Dahil patay na si Dolphy ay baka siya na nga ang pinakamatagal na comedian na napapanood ko, bukod pa kay Joey de Leon.  Pero noong mga 2005 ay naisip ko na gusto ko siyang makita in person. At hindi lang para makapagpa-picture ha (hindi ako fan ng autograph  -unless writer) na kasama s’ya ha, kundi ma-interview. Dumating ang pagkakataon na iyon noong 2013 at 2014 sa blog conference sa mga entries niya for Metro Manila Film Festival.

Bagaman mas regular natin na nakikita si Bossing sa Eat Bulaga ay kung babalikan ay marami na siyang show na nai-host at napagbidahan.  Ang unang pumapasok sa isipan ko na hosting gig niya ay Who Wants to be a Millionaire? (TV5). Pero ang iba pa n’yang sikat na defunct programs noon ay Mixed Nuts (GMA) at Korek Ka Dyan (GMA 7). Kung tama ako, ang huling nabanggit ay sagot ng Kapuso Network sa trend ng Game shows noon gaya ng Weakest Link (hosted by Edu Manzano) sa IBC 13, Game K Na Ba (hosted by Kris Aquino) at incidentally, Who Wants to be a Millionaire sa IBC 13 ( hosted by Christopher de Leon).

Sa dami naman ng comedy shows niya, ang pinasikat pa rin para sa akin ay ang Okay Ka Fairy Ko.  Tagal din naman kasi noon at siguro yun ang isa sa mga unang fantasy show dahil sa halo ng magic ng mga enkantada (may katunog ‘di ba?). Pero naabutan ko na rin yung Ful House (also starring Pia Guanio), 1 for 3 (with Rosanna Roces and Charlene Gonzalez. When Charlene transferred to ABS-CBN. Pinalitan s’ya ni Ai Ai delas Alas), at Daddy Di Do Du (with Maxene Magalona, Isabella de Leon, and his real life eldest daughter Danica Sotto).  So lamang na si Oyo Boy (isa pang anak nya kay Dina Bonnevie) kay Danica, dahil after ng Vampire ang Daddy ko, kasama pa s’ya sa latest sitcom na Hay Bahay ni Vic at ng asawa nitong si Kristine Hermosa.  Pag-awayin daw ba?  Hehehe! Pero kung papansinin, mahilig si Vic sa mga kwentong umiikot sa isang bahay at hindi niya kinaliligtaan isama ang mga taong malalapit sa kanya. So far special mention d'yan ay si Jose Manalo.

Sa pelikula ay ganoon din, naalala ko iyong kwento ng yumaong Ritchie D’ Horsie at pagbabalik niya, via Iskul Bukol: 20 Years After. Parang tinulungan nyang makalaya at makapag-bagong buhay si Ritchie mula sa pagkakakulong dahil sa droga.  Samantala, ang mga gusto kong pelikula n’ya na napanood ko na ay Rocky Plus V; Okay Ka Fairy Ko film series na buhay pa si Charito Solis; Hindi pa tapos ang labada, darling; Kabayo Kids; at Super wan-tu-tri.  Ang iba d'yan napanood ko na sa cable, pero sa sinehan ang napanood kong huli ay ang My Bebe Love.

Bukod pa sa paggawa ng pelikula, huwag nating kalimutan ang kanyang background sa music.  Siya ang  lead vocalist ng VST & Company. Sa impluwensya ng kuya ko na rin ay trip na trip ko ang mga kanta n’yang Rocky Baby Rock; Disco Fever; Awitin Mo, Isasayaw Ko. Pero ang pinakagusto ko sa lahat ay Ipagpatawad mo, Binibini, at Bakit ba Ganyan na kanyang komposisyon at pinasikat ng kanyang ex wife na si Dina.   

Bakit gusto ko siyang makita in person? 

Nagsimula ang ideya ko na gusto ko s’ya ma-meet in person siguro nung magkamuwang na ako noong 2005 (lang yun?) Around that the time, ay sila pa ni Pia Guanio.  Bago pa lumipat si Pia sa GMA ay isa siya sa hit Kapamilya host at tipong napaka-career-oriented.  Tapos naging sila ni Bossing kaya dun ako na-curious. Hanggang napa-focus ako sa Vic Sotto na hindi lang sa artistang  gumagawa ng TV, movie, o musika. 

Kung mapapansin mo, isa s'ya sa mga klase ng sikat na artista na maloko pero hindi masalita o napaka-ingat n'yang magsalita.  I guess iyon ang admirable sa kanya as a person o man.   Hindi siya madakdak pero once na nagsalita na siya  ng seryoso ay pakikinggan mo dahil may buwelo, hugot, at otoridad.  Iilan lang comedians or even sa lahat ng Pinoy celebrities ang katulad ng ganya.

7 Reasons why it’s cool to be a Moviegoer

Php 500 is Php 500, you can avail different things like mobile data connection, enjoy a buffet dinner, or pampering spa treatment. For me, that amount is my budget to treat myself for a movie time. Why it’s good and worthwhile to be a moviegoer?

It’s entertaining and liberating -   With or without company, I can watch movies in theaters.  Sometimes, I prefer to watch alone so I have full concentration on what I am watching.  I also feel more independent and geeky whenever I do that.   Yes, I also hear questions like “isa lang Ma’am (only one Ma’am)?” from ticketing officers.  Sometimes I feel shy, but most of the time I don’t care because…

Watching movies is an investment for me.   I do read self-help books and I’m okay to spend money for trainings and seminars. Why not for movies? Not all movies are created only to entertain, some are let us become aware of ourselves, our surroundings, and our society. You may event discover things that only films can offer.  Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s type of films are eccentric and will tickle your wild imagination, but give simple values that people tend forget. I like Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate factory, and Sweeney Todd:  The Demon Barber of the Fleet Street. On the other hand, Leonardo diCaprio’s movies are more of mind-boggling and awe-inspiring such as the Wolf of the Wall Street, Inception, Shutter Island, and The Revolutionary Road.

A moviegoer supports the film industry. It’s tempting to buy or download pirated copies. You can save money with that, but you also terminate the jobs of filmmakers, extras, actors, cameramen, scriptwriters, producers, and production assistants.  A dying industry has domino effects in other fields like music, television, employment, arts, and culture in general.  It’s actually happening now with fewer movies to launch every year, no more action stars, and only one type of movie we always see- rom-com movies of popular love teams. And I don’t think popularity of few may improve artistry, employment, and people’s culture. 

A Moviegoer understands and appreciates the Art of Filmmaking.  It’s true that the acting and production in television and theater are different.  When I was kid, not all the actors I watched in movies were regularly appearing on television. You only saw movie stars if they needed to promote their flicks. However since piracy become rampant and competition become stiffer, they also need jobs in television to survive. Any role is okay.

As a moviegoer, it’s waste of money for me to watch a film just because my idol is there. In fact, I feel proud if I watch something good and discover surprising new talent (even the movie is flop). I don’t usually follow news about box office performance. See what happened in Heneral Luna? The production outfit is new, the lead star is not a matinee idol, and the story is about a historical person.  However it became a box office through good reviews.  Anyhow, don’t just follow two-three bad reviews.

Fun Social interaction – A movie date or movie treat with your favorite person(s) is a social interaction. Bonding time is important for any busy folks for me, it’s not only with your company, but your fellow moviegoers.

 I had awesome experiences watching Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank, She’s Dating the Gangster, and Ang Diary ng Panget. Why? The Audience were lively!

                The story is not dragging and already established.   Besides no commercial break, the movies present compact and already comprehensive story. This is what I like about watching films than TV series. No super dragging storylines, in and out cast members, and unnecessary subplots.  

                Thought-provoking that you also tend to reflect and feel motivated.   Some movies are memorable not only because they offer artistic value and stunning performances, but also thought-provoking productions/stories in general.  I like Juno (Ellen Page), Confession of a shopaholic (Isla Fisher), Bridget Jones’ Diary ( Rene Zellewegar), Bata- Bata Paano Ka Ginawa (Vilma Santos), Flashdance ( Jennifer ), Save the Last Dance (Julia Stiles), Reality Bites, and The Dressmaker ( Kate Winslet) because these films make me believe I can empower myself.
